There are zombies.

November 16th, 2008 by Elizabeth Dameron; no comments

I’m out of bullets and I don’t know how to get more into the gun. It folds in half and I am nervous about shooting my own feet.
This is what it feels like:
folded gun

There are also empty wine bottles on the ground everywhere and this becomes more frightening than the zombies. Jason shoots a zombie in the head and all the blood goes into the bottles. It is satisfying.

Jenny’s Breakfast

October 15th, 2007 by Elizabeth Dameron; no comments

I wake up to find Jenny Crimp in my kitchen making eggs for breakfast. She is wearing a cape and so I can tell that she is Matt’s sister. She only uses the spices “bicycle” and “Alex’s left lung.” These aren’t from Beau’s spice rack, I notice. Upon eating the eggs feathers grow out of the sides of my forehead.
Soon I am totally covered in feathers.
“You are a bird,” she tells me.
We fly to a science/club fair. Ariana convinces Jenny to join SSC. Alex wins first place for making a volcano which, in addition to erupting, takes the place of his missing left lung. Kris is a reptile.
“I am a wolf,” says Kris. He is wrong.

(just in case)

the world was ending. everyone i’ve ever known was around, just waiting. it looked like a party, balloons and all, but it felt really tense. we all knew it was about to happen but we didn’t know exactly when or how. nobody knew what to expect and that was scary.
adrian held my hand.

Ben’s Wedding

August 22nd, 2006 by Elizabeth Dameron; no comments

I am in one of those sort of dirty, cheap motels. Having just taken a shower, I wrap myself in a towel and exit the bathroom. Ben and Matt are sitting on the bed and watching HBO. Ben is dressed normally except for a golden paper crown and Matt is wearing his Mom’s bathrobe. Neither of them look up when I come into the room. When I sit down on the bed next to them Matt looks at me and says,

“Please don’t tell me you’re wearing THAT to the wedding.”

I knew that Ben wanted us to match, being the maid of honor and the best man and all, but I had forgotten my robe. Matt had to wear a towel.

An Easy Question

July 5th, 2006 by Elizabeth Dameron; no comments

Cynthia was preparing to kill me.
“Don’t take it personally. It could have been anybody. And I’ll be saving 20 goddamned good trees.”
She then proceeded to stab me in the thigh.

Sean’s Ears

February 15th, 2006 by Elizabeth Dameron; no comments

I was sitting alone in a fancy restaurant. Sean and a handsome man were sitting at the table next to me. Whenever Sean left to go to the bathroom (this happened often), Handsome Man would lean over to my table and whisper odd/flattering things about Sean to me. The only one I remember:

“I love his ears.”

I feel overwhelmingly happy.

“Boys are stupid”

January 2nd, 2006 by Elizabeth Dameron; one comment

This first part was very unclear:
Cynthia and I were walking through a park or field. Cynthia drew a cannon that may or may not have been there. She drew with very clean lines and absolutely no shading. This was shocking and important. I saw Ariana, Anna, Joel, and Tim sitting on top of picnic tables. I said something to them about daisies and Tim was very interested. Ariana responded in French that I did not understand. I guessed that she said something about shades of gray. This made me confident and I danced. Cynthia had disappeared by this point. Anna left to finish her college applications.

This is the part I remember:
The picnic tables were sitting at the top of a tall, grassy hill. While I was still dancing Joel got up and rolled down it. At the bottom he rolled into a huge puddle. He was underwater except for his nose and feet. “Boys are stupid,” he said. Anna was back and her face was round and comforting.

Most Changed

Anna had become a vampire.

“I am fundamentally evil,” she told us. Everyone seemed very concerned for her.

Judy and the Dream of Horses

November 15th, 2005 by Elizabeth Dameron; 2 comments

I was in Blackbird Bakery/a big empty room. It was Joel’s house. I thought I saw Arykah behind a wall of thick glass cubes. It turned out to be a bunk bed. Anna was sleeping on the top bunk and Joel was on the bottom. I tried to wake them up to tell them that Arykah was home. Only Joel woke up. He showed me an impossible sort of dinosaur nesting doll toy. “It is like that Belle and Sebastian song about the man who drives a dinosaur instead of a car,” he said. Anna woke up and told me that I had missed the bus. She was right but I didn’t care.

“I will drive a dinosaur.”
I said.
“I will drive a unicorn.”
Joel said.
“With a sidecar.”
Anna said.

The instrumental part from Judy And The Dream Of Horses started playing and we danced.
