Snack
October 9th, 2006 by Cynthia Foley; no comments
It’s lunchtime at BHS. I am standing next to a rectangular table, at which many of my peers are seated. I notice a bag of snack. It is a mix of spiders and oysters. In some cases the spiders have long floppy legs which are wrapped, clinging, to the flesh of the oyster. This forms a little snack. I begin to consume them. Lizzie asks me, “aren’t you worried those spiders are poisonous?” Katie Morton looks horrified at my lunch, but Christie is ok with it. I decide to take the remaining spider from the snack bag and attempt to identify it. It is different than the others. It is a dark murky brown with a gold pattern on back. This spider is not dead. In fact, it leaps to the ground and crawls rapidly toward my shoe. I try to stamp on it, but it only becomes angry. It jumps on me. Finally, I kill it.
